Chaperone and Volunteer Training, 2016 -2017
HCPSS requires all chaperones and volunteers to complete the confidentiality and child abuse training every year. If you plan to chaperone a field trip (for example: Outdoor Education, Bowl-A-Thon, Hershy Park etc.) or volunteer in the building at any point throughout the school year, please take a few minutes to complete the chaperone/volunteer training through HCPSS.
Step 1: How to Complete the Confidentiality Training Course
Thank you for your interest in volunteering within the Howard County School System! We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and schools. According to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools.
View the brief training presentation and print out a certificate of completion
Step 2: How to Complete the Child Abuse/Neglect Training Course
Maryland State Law requires that Volunteers, including Parent Volunteers, complete annual Child Abuse Training prior to serving as a volunteer in any school. Child Abuse Training provides volunteers with the opportunity to learn about child abuse reporting procedures when abuse is suspected.
We are asking that each of our volunteers complete Child Abuse Training prior to volunteering. If you have not yet completed the training, please use this link to view the attached PowerPoint presentation. Once you have viewed each slide, please fill our the form and return it to Glenwood MS.
Thank you again for your participation in our school and helping to ensure that each of our students remains safe.
Once you have reviewed the child abuse PDF and the confidentiality PowerPoint, please print and sign BOTH certificates.
Step 3: To Be Marked as a Trained Chaperone/Volunteer at GMS for the 2016-2017 School Year:
Bring BOTH the child abuse and confidentiality training certificates to Suzy Rhinehart, Student Services Secretary, who is located in Student Services. If only one certificate is handed in, you will still need to hand in the second certificate to be marked as trained. Suzy will collect your certificates and mark you as trained for the school year. If you prefer to submit your training certificates electronically, sign, scan and email both certificates to Suzy Rhinehart at [email protected].
**Important Note: Write your child's/children's name(s) and grade(s) on the certificate.
**Note: If both parents plan to chaperone/volunteer during the year, than both parents need to complete the training and hand in their certificates to Suzy Rhinehart.
For HCPSS Employees Only:
This year, HCPSS employees do not need to complete the parent version of the training since you already completed it through your Safe School Training. If you are an HCPSS employee, please either show your HCPSS employee ID to Suzy Rhinehart to copy for our records or scan and email it to Suzy .
Questions? Email Suzy Rhinehart at [email protected]. Thank you for your willingness to chaperone and volunteer during the 2016-2017 school year!
